Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what data Meme Bean Machine ("the Bot") sees, uses, and stores when you use it on Discord.

1. What we store

• Server list: for each Discord server (guild) the Bot is added to, we store its Discord server ID and server name. This is only used so the Bot can log/report which servers it's active in — no member lists, messages, or per-user data are stored alongside it.

That's it — the Bot does not have a database of users, does not log your search queries, and does not keep a history of what you've searched for or posted.

2. What we see, but don't store

When you run a command, Discord sends the Bot standard interaction data (your Discord user ID/username, the server and channel, and the command input you typed) so the Bot can respond. This is used only to:

• Generate your search results and show you an ephemeral (private) preview.
• Make sure only you can interact with your own preview's select menu/buttons ("This isn't your search, pal.").
• Credit you in the message posted to the channel (e.g. "@you searched for a GIF from ...").

None of this is written to disk, logged long-term, or shared with anyone beyond what's needed to render that one response. Your search text (e.g. the quote you searched for) is sent to the relevant third-party service (see below) purely to perform the search, and is not retained by us afterwards.

3. Third-party services

Depending on which command you use, your search query and/or an image request is sent directly to one of these external services in order to fetch results:

• GIFGlobe
• Frinkiac
• Morbotron
• Smega-drive (smegadrive.ganymede.tv)
• memeSRC (via AWS Cognito/AppSync and served over Amazon CloudFront)

Each of these operates independently of us and has its own handling of any requests it receives. We don't control, and aren't responsible for, their own data practices.

4. Discord itself

The Bot only functions within Discord, and your use of Discord is separately governed by Discord's Privacy Policy. We do not receive your Discord account email, password, or any data beyond what Discord's bot API exposes for an interaction (as described in section 2).

5. Operational monitoring

We use basic process monitoring (automatic restarts, and a crash alert sent to a private Discord webhook we control) to keep the Bot online. This alert only contains the Bot's own process status (e.g. "the bot crashed repeatedly") — never user data or search content.

6. Data retention & deletion

Since we don't store user-level data, there's nothing user-specific to delete. If the Bot is removed from your server, its server ID/name entry is removed from our server list on the next sync.

7. Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Continued use of the Bot after a change means you accept the updated policy.
